The photographs I care about are the ones that could only have been made in that place, on that day, with those people. Getting there is the work: knowing what the image is for, who it’s about, where the light will be, and what the crew and gear need to be ready for before we ever leave the truck. Whether it’s a backcountry camp three days from a road, a river at first light, or a studio set built for product and on-model work, the goal is the same; be ready so that when the moment comes, nothing gets in its way.
